A new book on Palliative Care – An Integrated Approach has been written by Jenny Buckley, head of education at Chichester's St Wilfrid's Hospice
When publishers John Wiley and Sons Ltd said they wanted a book for nurses looking at aspects of palliative care, Jenny's initial reaction was to say 'No, I'm far too busy'.
But a series of coincidences and the support of friends, family and work colleagues encouraged her to take on the project.
At the book's launch, Jenny spoke about her rise to the challenge, how she based the book on her successful diploma course, why she hit a brick wall and how she overcame it.
Jenny said: "Palliative care is within the remit of all health care professionals in any setting.
"My book is an accessible, practical guide to the delivery of good palliative care, combining theory and practice, aimed at all members of the multidisciplinary team
"It explains and complements the government-led End of Life Care programme which is being co-ordinated by Strategic Health Authorities incorporating the Gold Standards Framework, the Preferred Place of Care and Liverpool Care Pathway."
The book has been published at £27.99 and is available from John Wiley and Sons on 01243 843294,
email customer@wiley.co.uk or from Jenny on 01243 755807.
