A scary sight greeted drivers on the A286 Chichester-Midhurst road in the early hours of Sunday (November 1) – a witch and a vampire taking a halloween stroll.
The spooky stunt was, in fact, a sponsored walk by Midhurst couple Warren and Davina McColl, in aid of the campaign group Families Need Fathers.

The pair dressed for the occasion, but in the interests of road safety, also wore high-vis vests and carried a torch.

Davina, 29, said the reason for the fundraiser was the couple's support for Families Need Fathers in the light of her husband's recent experiences.

"He is unable to see his three children from a previous marriage. He has no access and he feels this is unjust," she said. "We both feel strongly about the system and the so-called 'fathers' rights' if any.

"We support Families Need Fathers which is not so in-your-face as Fathers for Justice. It intends to raise awareness there are fathers out there who do not see their kids when they haven't even done anything wrong, like my husband."

She added: "It is hard to see why he cannot have access to see his children on a fortnightly basis."

Warren, 35, and Davina set off from the Chichester city boundary at midnight on Saturday to walk the 12 miles home to Midhurst in bright moonlight.

The journey took them three-and-a-half hours and on the way, they were greeted by toots on car horns from some of the few motorists sharing the route.

Davina said: "We have raised £100 with the kind support of our family, friends and work colleagues."
