MIDDLETON'S Holly Colvin has set her sights on becoming England's leading wicket-taker this summer after playing a starring role in the series victory over South Africa.

The 18-year-old got her account against South Africa off to a perfect start by taking three wickets in the opening win at Canterbury before claiming one in the victory at Lord's two days later.

Colvin was back to her best at Shenley taking three for 20 as she and fellow spinner Laura Marsh secured the series despite an unconvincing batting display in the third one-dayer.

The Sussex star leads the way for England with nine wickets and aims to continue her success in the remaining two ODIs against the Proteas.

"I feel really good in training and I'm transferring that on to the pitch at the moment," she said.

"I know my role in the team and I don't mind bowling during the powerplays when only one or two fielders are allowed out.

"It was great to play at Lord's – I was unlucky not to get a few more wickets but I made up for it at Shenley when it counted. We didn't bat well and our backs were against the wall, but Laura and I dug deep to help the team and we need to keep doing that."

Colvin became the youngest player to pull on an England shirt in a Test match when she made her debut against Australia in 2005.

But despite taking seven wickets in three games against the South Africans, the Brighton College pupil insists there's room for improvement as England bid for a 5-0 series whitewash.

"I know there are areas where I need to get better," she said. "South Africa haven't performed likewe know they can, and some of the better teams like Australia and New Zealand will punish you if you stray.
"I have to make sure I keep being consistent."
