Children's Day in Oaklands Park, Chichester showed the district's Scouts to be in good heart.
Organised by the Chichester and Midhurst District Scout Council, the day was about showing scouting to the public, explained Michael Merritt, scouter in contact for the 12th Chichester. "And it is also about trying to recruit some leaders. It sounds like five people signed up as leaders," he added.

Youngsters also showed their interest in Scouting.

"Our district numbers are going up at the moment. We have had three years of increases in a row now."

The day featured lots of fun-fair style events including tombolas, china smash, barbecues and a coconut shy.

Numbers attending were perhaps a little down on a day when there was plenty of competition around.

But it was still a success, Mr Merritt said.
