An ocean yacht master is preparing to set sail on a voyage around Britain to raise £27,000 to help his tiny godson see the world for the first time.
Colonel Mike Brooke from Bosham will leave Bosham Quay on Saturday for the three-month 1,500-mile voyage of discovery aboard his 19ft boat Theo's Future, named after his blind 18-month-old godson Theo Holroyd who suffers from Leber congenital amauro
sis (LCA).
The cash will be donated to eye research charity Fight for Sight to fund a vital piece of gene-screening equipment to help researchers at the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology in London and Moorfields Eye Hospital in their bid to find a cure.
