DISCUSSIONS between Chichester City Council and the developers chosen to revamp the Butter Market have taken a step further to completion.
Orion Developments Ltd finished inaugural talks with the council involving the basic plans for the 200-year-old building.

The next step is to find an agreement on the legal side of the deal. The council will continue to own the building, which means it will have a say on who the traders are, and it will be leased to Orion.

The council had put in a planning application of its own as a back-up plan in November, which is yet to be decided.

The council said even if it was permitted, Orion would seek to put in a plan of its own.

The Butter Market will close on June 23 for the redevelopment to take place.
