So far this year, 60 incidents have been reported, compared with 58 in the same period last year.

Officers from the Road Policing Unit increased their efforts in breath testing more drivers throughout February and have warned drivers they can expect to be stopped as part of a continued effort in tackling this problem

Inspector Phil Nicholas, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "We know that in Sussex, drink and drugs contribute to about 20 per cent of those killed or seriously injured in collisions.

"We have increased our efforts throughout February to pursue those who are willing to take risks. These figures are unacceptable and we will continue to hunt down those who drive impaired and put the lives of others at risk."
