TRIBUTES have been paid to a grandfather who lost his life after a head-on crash near Emsworth.
Roger Elvin (56), a multi-trade foreman, was seriously injured when the white Nissan Vanette he was driving collided with a white Mercedes drop-side lorry on Horndean Road between Rowlands Castle and Emsworth.

Mr Elvin, of Cressy Road, Portsmouth, was taken to hospital by ambulance after the crash at 11.28am on April 25, but later died.

The 43-year-old lorry driver was uninjured.

In a statement, Mr Elvin's family said: "Roger was a hard-working man, working all his adult life. Roger was devoted to his family, a caring father and grandfather.

"He was very popular with his partner and his circle of friends.

"Roger loved life and his beloved Pompey. He was a lifetime supporter, going to every game he could.

"He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him."

The lorry driver, also from Portsmouth, was arrested and bailed until September 3 on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police are still appealing for witnesses to the collision.

Anyone who can help is asked to call Insp Beth Pirie at the Cosham Roads Policing Unit quoting Operation Peniton on 0845 045 45 45, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
