Hospital supporters should know the fate of St Richard's next week when bosses announce where they think the county's main hospital should be located.
Health chiefs at the Primary Care Trust will announce on Wednesday whether they are recommending the Chichester or the Worthing hospital becomes the major general hospital, with the other downgraded.

Staff, campaign groups, MPs and the media will
be briefed ahead of the publication of the PCT's papers containing the recommendation to the board, which meets on June 4 in Copthorne, near Gatwick, to make the formal decision.

Meanwhile, it will be all aboard the battle bus as campaigners organise a coach to take hospital supporters on the 100-mile round trip to the PCT's meeting.

"If anyone would like to join us on the Westrings coach, we have 51 seats available on a first-come, first-served basis," said Abigail Rowe from the Support St Richard's campaign.

Although not a public meeting, members of the public are able to attend and watch the proceedings on June 4.

The Copthorne Hotel was chosen as the venue to preserve a sense of 'neutrality' and accommodate up to 500 people.

The coach will leave Four Seasons Country Stores in East Wittering at 11am, and will then pick up more passengers in Oaklands Way lay-by in Chichester at 11.20am.

The meeting will start at 2pm.

For more details or to book your place call 07802 783 604 or email.

The PCT has decided to broadcast the meeting live via a web-cam which can be viewed on the Observer's website.
