SEVERAL tawny owls have been rescued from the freezing bite of the winter season over December and January.
One owl broke its wing and another had damage to its eye, but all of them are being nursed back to health at Brent Lodge animal centre in Sidlesham.

More than 50 hedgehogs came through the centre's doors, most of them too young to stay out in the cold.

"The young will be kept in until springtime because they are underweight and cannot survive the winter – it takes its toll on them," said full-time volunteer Claire Stares.

"Tawny owls have been getting killed because they drop from branches in the trees and on to the roads.

"We have several of them here at the moment and we will try to get them back in the wild as soon as possible."
