A GROUP of ladies were left gobsmacked and confused about the closure of a club close to their hearts.
Several members of Chichester's Motorcise Healthy Living Centre were dumbfounded when a notice was put in its window about the business going into liquidation.
And confusion has arisen about how some of the members are going to get their subscription money back from the company, with payments of up to £300 already made.
Julia Campion, of Aldwick Avenue, Bognor, used to go to the club every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
She said: "I am absolutely gobsmacked. I thought it was doing exceedingly well. We've all really been left in the dark about our money and it is just such a shame."
The Motorcise Healthy Living Centre is aimed at women over 40. Nothing in writing has yet been received by the members.
Tenon Recovery was called in to the business last Friday afternoon and met with an accountant and the director of the business, which is based at Old Market Avenue.
It states that because of a decline in sales, the business had to cease immediately. Tenon Recovery has said the business will go into liquidation in about three or four weeks' time and it is currently searching for a buyer.
"I've made two really good friends here and it's done me a world of good," said Betsy Randall (74), of Selsey. "I've paid up until next July and I don't think the staff knew anything about it.
"I got a call from another woman saying she had seen a notice about its closure and it came as a real shock.
"It was a very, very special place to me."
