CHICHESTER'S next mayor is to be a city councillor who last held the ancient office five years ago.
Cllr David Siggs, a Liberal Democrat, who represents the city's South Ward, lives in Langdale Avenue.

He was chosen at a city council meeting earlier this month and takes office at the historic mayor-makingceremony in May.

Cllr Siggs' wife, Margaret, will be the mayoress. His father, the late Tom Siggs, was mayor of Chichester for a year in the 1970s.

The new deputy mayor will be Cllr Michael Woolley, a Liberal Democrat, and the bailiff Cllr Martyn Bell, a Conservative.

Cllr Siggs, who runs his own computer business, has been a member of the city council for 16 years, and is a former member of Chichester District Council.

He has not yet made a decision on what the official mayoral charity will be during his year of office, but said he wanted to do something for the more disadvantaged sides of the community in Chichester.

Cllr Siggs, who has been deputy mayor for the past year, will succeed Cllr Ray Brown as mayor.
