Chichester has welcomed Brian Conley with open arms in his first week starring in The Music Man at the festival theatre.
The all-round performer plays the lead role of Professor Harold Hill, who cons parents into believing he can change their children's lives with a music scheme.

Brian said he was born to play the part which he has waited a year to do, because of commitments the previous summer.

Talking of his role, he said: "Harold is a confident chap. He rallies up the whole town into believing they need this marching band that is going to change their lives. It needs someone who has got that energy to get everybody going, which I can bring to it.

"And he is a bit of a smoothy hence this very charming haircut I have at the moment. I do not seem to do any show where I have a normal head of hair, luckily it is all mine.

"He is funny, he is warm. In fairness I was born to play this part. This is the first time I have been here.

"It is professional and you can understand why so many shows move on from here, because the back-up you get is second to none – everybody is first division.

"The audiences have been very complimentary. The emails we have received after the show saying how much they have enjoyed it have been fantastic.

"They have seen a lot of shows here, they have a huge support for this wonderful theatre. You just know when you go out there you have got to deliver. It is exciting – I enjoy that."

The Music Man started on June 23 and runs until August 30.
