Chichester store flooded with job applications

A STORE which will be opening in Chichester has been inundated with applications from jobseekers.

John Lewis, which is opening a store at Chichester Retail Park, has received more than 1,300 applications for 140 vacancies, which equates to nine for each position.

John Lewis recruitment manager Laura Berry said: “The calibre of candidates for our new ‘at home’ shop in Chichester has been really high and we’ve worked closely with the local job centres to ensure we got a good mix of candidates that reflect the local community.

“Our first shop in Sussex marks an exciting period of growth for John Lewis. We look forward to welcoming these new partners on board and have no doubt they’ll deliver the outstanding levels of customer service John Lewis is renowned for.”

The company said all members of staff would benefit from the organisation’s in-depth training and development programmes.

Claire Dunkason has been appointed store manager.

She has 17 years’ experience with the company and said she was looking forward to getting started.

She said: “This is a really exciting time for us and I am looking forward to working with my new team throughout their training as we count down to opening day in the spring.”
