RICHARD WILLIAMSON Country Walk...Lavington Common
We much enjoyed this 2.5-mile (4kms) walk last week across National Trust heathland with fine views south to the Downs.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Footsteps along the magnificent Sussex landscape
When I was asked to write a weekly walk for this newspaper six years ago, I thought ‘Oh super, I’ve walked the country from end to end and loved every minute and every metre – and hopefully everybody else will enjoy this superb landscape, too’.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Nature Trails...A fishing trip sparks a trip back in time
It was a strange moment. I experienced a time-warp. I was on the banks of the River Test in Hampshire having been given a day’s fly-fishing for grayling. These are colourful salmonids, with a ‘coarse’ breeding season, with all the mystique of trout for devotees of the sport.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Country Walk...Lavington Stud Farm
I’ve been 1,000 miles across Sussex on these walks and am still finding unexplored places. I have been all around Lavington Stud Farm but never through the middle.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Nature Trails...This mighty hawk is penned by T White
My father gave me The Goshawk by TH White for my 16th birthday. The book comes to mind every time I see a circle of pigeon’s feathers in the woods as I wonder if these could indicate the presence of such a rare bird here in Sussex.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Country Walk...South Ambersham
You have heathland, woodland, fenland, farmland and an old lazy river winding through them like a serpent in this super little walk of 3.6 miles (6kms) two miles east of Midhurst.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Nature Trails...The mighty sea eagle was once on our shores
Just shows you how much wealth of beauty there is in West Sussex. I’ve never walked this route, yet it’s one of the best ever.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Country Walk...The Black Rabbit to South Stoke
Just shows you how much wealth of beauty there is in West Sussex. I’ve never walked this route, yet it’s one of the best ever.
RICHARD WILLIAMSON Nature Trails...Magnificent colouring reflects glory of nature
I photographed this splendid cock pheasant last spring at snowdrop time. He was then less than a year old and had become quite tame in the garden, one of the tribe reared for the shooting season but that had somehow escaped the guns.
