Meeting to discuss Lavant shop
RESIDENTS in Lavant are being urged to attend an open meeting to discuss the issue of a village shop.
The meeting will take place at Lavant Memorial Hall on Saturday, February 25 at 11am.
A survey carried out last September revealed 71 per cent of residents felt a community shop was important or very important for the village.
Shop steering group member Caroline Reynolds said the next step was to make the shop a reality.
At the meeting issues around setting up a community shop will be presented and a committee will need to be elected to take the ideas forward. The steering group said without a committee, nothing would happen and there would not be a shop in Lavant.
Working with other volunteers the steering group is currently addressing a number of issues.
These include a vision for the community shop. The survey showed that people do not want just a shop but a tearoom and a wide range of products and services including a cash point, dry cleaning and shoe repairs, an advertising board and postal services.
Other issues include location options and funding possibilities including the availability of grants.
Mrs Reynolds said: “Please come along to the meeting. The steering group is too small to make the shop a reality – a larger committee is necessary.
“Without you, the next stage cannot happen.”
