My Garden Pond

My pond is rather tiny, in fact it's very small.

You may wonder when you see it why it's there at all.

When you first look in, you may think its rather bare

but take a look more closely, you'll be amazed whats hidden there

There's snails of different sizes, some big and round and fat

or tiny little twirly ones, all coiled and very flat.

Some slimy leeches lurk down there and creepy things pale green,

and larva from the damsel fly I've very often seen.

There's lots of frogs in the pond, and a newt or two,

the newts have yellow bellies and backs of silver blue.

When the frogspawn first arrives, it's like a jellied mess,

but very soon its tadpoles there, that's nature at it's best.

I sometimes have some toadspawn, like a necklace made of beads,

It's quite surprising what you see, down there among the weeds.

The water boatman's quite a sight as it twists itself around,

the little beetle, shiny black is another thing I've found.

With toads and frogs and creepy things all swimming round to see,

my little pond for wild life is such a pleasure to me.
