The Chichester Pro Camerata, the new professional orchestra for Chichester and the south of England, has lined up two key concerts in the city as part of its first season.
International virtuoso pianist Jonathan Plowright and cellist Natalie Clein (BBC Young Musician of the Year – 1994) are the stars in the coming months.
"These two concerts are really exciting because the soloists are amazing," says Chichester Pro
Camerata founder, secretary and director Michael Sullivan.
"Jonathan comes down to Chichester University to work where he is head of keyboard. He is a renowned pianist who travels the world giving solo recitals. For him to play with us is great."
Jonathan has been described by Gramophone as 'one of the finest living pianists'.
Gold Medalist at the Royal Academy of Music and first-winner in the European Piano Competition, Jonathan is also often invited to give masterclasses, consultation lessons and prize adjudications at competitions and international conservatoires.
The Chichester Pro Camerata was set up last year to perform
a series of professional concerts in Chichester and the south of England.
Jonathan joins the orchestra's next performance in The Chapel, Chichester University, College Lane, Chichester on Saturday, May 9, starting at 7.30pm.
Conducted by Christopher Gayford, a Chichester-born musician who regularly works with orchestras nationally, the Chichester Pro Camerata will perform: Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture; Haydn Piano Concerto in D, and Beethoven Symphony No1.
A discount on tickets applies if also booking for Natalie Clein's appearance with the Camerata on Friday, July 3 at 7.30pm at St Paul's Church, Chichester – a concert which coincides with the Chichester Festivities, but is not part of them.
Michael added: "Natalie Clein is extremely well known. From all angles, she is a fantastic soloist.
"She is very engaging as a performer. Within the past 18 months she has recorded for EMI the Elgar cello concerto. She is one of the greatest cello soloists in the country."
Her programme will be Haydn Cello Concerto in C plus the world premiere of a piece by Dobrinka Tabakova for solo cello, orchestra and choir, featuring Chichester's Chantry Quire. Also to be performed will be Mozart Symphony No40.
