TWO elderly women suffered serious leg injuries when a car driven by another pensioner ran into them as they sat on a wall overlooking the River Arun at Littlehampton.
The two women were taken to hospital by ambulance, after being given treatment by Littlehampton firefighters at the scene, in Pier Road.

The accident happened at about 3.30pm on Thursday (May 8, 2008) when a VW Polo driven by an elderly man from t
he Littlehampton area crossed the road, mounted the kerb and collided with the women. Two elderly men were also given first aid by the firefighters and the car driver was treated for shock.

The wall is a highly popular spot for visitors to sit beside the river and enjoy fish and chips or ice cream. Traders from nearby shops and cafes ran to the aid of the injured people.

Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them on 0845 60 70 999.
