TRUE Grit - Epic Feats of Endurance – will be the theme at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed to celebrate motor sport heroes who went the extra mile in the pursuit of victory.
The festival, which takes place from July 3 to 5, will also mark the centenaries of Bugatti, Audi and Morgan and 50 years of the Mini.

Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton is set to be the star attraction again as he returns to Goodwood after attracting huge crowds to the event last year.

The reigning champion will get to achieve a lifetime ambition by driving a 1988 McLaren that was once driven by his idol, Brazillian Aryton Senna.

At the festival media launch, event founder the Earl of March, said: "The theme celebrates the drive and determination of motor racing's heroes, who overcame huge physical, mental and mechanical barriers in their quest for glory.

"From Jackie Stewart's enduring victory at the 1968 German Grand Prix, despite his broken wrist, to Mick Doohan's courageous return to motorcycle racing in 1992, without full use of his right leg.

"There are countless amazing tales of performances far beyond what was thought possible for any human being.

"I look forward with much anticipation to seeing some of the great endurance drivers, riders and machines in action."

F1 star Jenson Button will attend the festival in the latest Brawn GP machine, and triple world champion Sir Jackie Stewart will also get behind the wheel along with other motor racing legends and modern day stars to take part in the 1.16 mile hillclimb.

Goodwood also plans to bring together as many post-War Le Mans winning cars together as possible to form an impressive display of victorious endurance racers. A host of famous Le Mans drivers are also expected to make an appearance.

Model Jodie Kidd, who attended the launch, said: "This is where I got my racing license. Goodwood holds all of my loves, motor racing, horses and golf so that's why the place is so special to me.

"If you're a real petrol head or just want a fabulous day out there's nowhere better in the world than the Festival of Speed."

Last year's event saw crowds of more than 140,000 attend.

Goodwood Revival

The Earl of March also announced plans for this year's Goodwood Revival between September 18 to 20.

The Mini will play a central role and there will be a special 60-minute endurance race to mark 50 year's since the famous 1959 Tourist Trophy.

Central to the Revival will be a party for Sir Stirling Moss, who celebrates his 80th birthday during the event.

A collection of cars raced by the legend during his illustrious career will be on display.
