With the start of the athletics season imminent, Chichester Runners & AC have held two camps at Chichester University's Bishop Otter campus this week.

More than a dozen keen youngsters attended each one and got the chance to do some limbering-up, running and field disciplines.

The sessions catered for all levels of ability and the camps were even blessed by sunshine - even if it wasn't backed by summer temperatures.

Phil Baker, of the athletics club, said: "We've got young people from all over the Chichester, Emsworth, Midhurst and Bognor areas.

"They're all having a go at everything at this stage - we encourage our younger athletes to consider themselves as all-rounders.

"It's a useful exercise for them and it's nice to see a good number turn out. We hope it will help them chalk up some good performances when the season begins."

We'll have a picture from the camp, plus other news from the local athletics scene, in the Observer next week.
