WOMEN who have undergone a mastectomy and are contemplating breast reconstruction have a new DVD to help them decide on the best form of surgery.
Surgeons at a leading Mid Sussex centre for breast reconstruction believe women are not always given the full range of options available for reconstruction in what can sometimes be a postcode lottery.
According to Charles Nduka, the consultant plastic surgeon who directed the DVD, women may end up choosing an option that is not right for them or which requires further plastic surgery in the future.
Mr Nduka works at the Queen Victoria Hospital (QVH) in East Grinstead, which is a leading centre for breast reconstruction in the south east.
The DVD, available nationally, gives comprehensive information about the reconstruction options available, as well as information on 'finishing touches' such as nipple reconstruction and nipple tattooing.
The DVD is available from
www.breastreconstructionforlife.org.uk and is free of charge, although there is an optional facility to make a donation to a breast cancer charity.
