THE tragic death of a Hurstpierpoint farmer from shotgun injuries has sent shockwaves through the village and wider community.

The body of Marcus Nelson, 54, was found in a field at Wanbarrow Farm by a friend on Friday morning.

Police investigating the tragedy say they have ruled out any third party involvement.

His devastated family say the well-known father-of-three was a 'wonderful man' while others have paid tribute to his 'enthusiasm for life' and inspirational example.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We are investigating a sudden death that occured on Friday. As far as we can say there was no third party involvement."

In a statement, the family said: "We can confirm that sadly Mr Marcus Nelson was found deceased on his farm on Friday, September 26, 2008.

"Marcus Nelson was a wonderful man and his sudden death has deeply shocked both his family and friends.

"At this stage his family have no wish to comment on the rumours or speculation surrounding his death, however have stated that Sussex Police have investigated the death and informed them that there are no suspicious circumstances or third party involvement.

"Funeral arrangements are in hand and an obituary will be placed in the paper."
