Chichester Chorale will be performing at Boxgrove Priory on Friday and Saturday July 11 and 12 at 7.30pm - a pleasant contrast, they promise, to the Festival of Speed earlier in the day.
Chorale spokeswoman Polly Robson said: "Last year's concert was sold out, and two identical programmes have therefore been arranged for two nights this year.
"Access to Boxgrove will be simple, despite the Festival of Speed diversions, and the con
cert should prove a calm and serene contrast to the noise and bustle occurring earlier in the day!"
Polly added: "The choir will be performing Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine, Haydn's Little Organ Mass, the Pergolesi Magnificat and two contrasting but equally memorable versions of the Ave Maria – by Rachmaninov and Charlie Mathews, a master's graduate of the University of Chichester, whose works are as wonderful for the listener as they are for the singer.
"In addition two sets of English songs by Stanford and Vaughan Williams will complete a delightful evening of choral music for a summer's evening. The soloist for Stanford's magnificent piece The Bluebird will be Sophie Pentecost, a former Winchester chorister who has just completed her masters in performance at the University of Chichester."
The choir will be conducted by Arthur Robson and Christopher Larley. Tickets are now available from the Chichester Festivities Box Office, either www.chifest.org.uk or 01243 780192, or at the door of the church from 7pm or from Polly Robson on 01243 823481 and are £10 (£8 concessions).
