20’s Plenty launched in Chichester streets

A new 20mph speed limit will come in to force in some residential roads in Chichester today.

A community group, 20’s plenty, has campaigned to make 20mph the default speed limit without using traffic calming measures. It aims to encourage more people to walk and cycle.

South Chichester County Local Committee of West Sussex County Council approved the allocation of £100,000 to implement the scheme back in November.

Campaigners, led by Sarah Sharp, even held a public consultation to gauge the level of support for the project, which has been met with mixed feelings by Observer readers.

The implementation follows a 20’s plenty street party which took place on Cleveland Road yesterday.
