A 21-year-old man from Bognor Regis has died after being electrocuted on train tracks at Drayton level crossing in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene and reports, unconfirmed by police, indicate that ambulance and police staff attending made a desperate attempt to resuscitate him.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Our officers were called to the railway line at Drayton level crossing, east of Chichester, at 3.30am on Saturday, February 14, after reports a person had been electrocuted.

“Colleagues from Sussex Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended but a 21-year-old man from Bognor Regis was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His family has been informed and we are not treating the man’s death as suspicious but a we have prepared a file for the coroner.”

Train services between Chichester and Barnham were cancelled before returning to a normal service at around 7.30am, transport police said.
