MP Nick Gibb paid a visit to Bognor Regis War Memorial Hospital to see the work being done by the X-ray department.
In particular he visited the department which deals with osteoporosis, which is detected using the hospital's hologic dexa scanner.
The scanner has been at the hospital since 2005 and has been used more than 3,000 times.
Mr Gibb said: "In this area, with a large number of elderly people, osteoporosis is of increasing concern.
"It is therefore wonderful that we in Bognor Regis have our own dexa scanner. It was great to meet the team at Bognor Hospital.
"It was very clear to me patients going to the X-ray department for their scan are being treated quickly, with skill and courtesy. The team are to be congratulated for the service they are providing for local people.
"It is also important to know vitamin D is vital in the prevention of osteoporosis and just 15 minutes a day outside in the fresh air with the sleeves rolled up should be enough to give most people the vitamin D."
Diagnostic imaging service manager and manager of the X-ray department Maureen Moore, said: "We were pleased to welcome Mr Gibb to the hospital and show him some of the developments we have made to our X-ray services over recent years.
"As the patron of the local osteoporosis support group, Mr Gibb was keen to understand for himself more about the services on offer at the hospital."
