A27 works causing unnecessary diversion
I would just like to say how ridiculous the diversion was this weekend (September 13/14) and it caused a completely unnecessary traffic jam in a huge area.
I understand that essential works are being carried out on Arundel bridge, resulting in the road closure, but what I don't understand is why there was such a huge and unnecessary diversion in place.
As I understand it the diversion comes off the A27 onto the A280 or A284, onto the A259 to Bognor Regis, past Tesco on the A29 to Fontwell, there re-joining the A27.
I live in Ford and was surprised at how wide-spread the diversion route was. I myself tried to head to the tip in Littlehampton, but upon seeing the traffic at a near stand-still from Climping, decided to head to Bognor's tip.
Overall it took us an hour to get there, which is usually a 15-20 minute journey, at the most.
What I don't understand is why the diversion doesn't take people from the A27 onto the A259 at Littlehampton, via the A284, back up on Ford Road, through Ford train crossing, then rejoining the A27.
I know that the roads are smaller and there could be large volumes of traffic on these roads, but surely it would be better to keep the traffic flowing on smaller roads over a smaller area, than to block up the roads from Littlehampton and Bognor and surrounding areas.
Maybe there is an alteria motive, regarding the proposed eco-town. Of course, it would not look too good having large quantities of traffic around an area where they propose to build several thousand homes.
