THE Friends of Chartres will be holding an illustrated talk in Chichester on Friday, November 11.
‘A Dangerous Wartime Journey Through French Indo-China’ will be presented by Martyn Bell, starting at 7.30pm in the Shippam Centre, Tozer Way.
It will detail the escape of Free Thai members Chamkat Balankura and Lee Phaisan from Japanese-occupied Thailand in February 1943 and their 1,000 mile journey to reach allies in Chinese nationalist-held Chungking.
Mr Bell has known Balankura’s niece for many years and with the help of Chamkat’s and Lee’s surviving diaries, has been re-tracing the heroic journey.
The event is for members and non-members, call 01243 783776.
