A HEARING into a council decision to turn down two gypsy pitches is set to be held in Chichester.
The appeal will be heard at the Assembly Rooms, in North Street, Chichester, at 9.30am on Wednesday, March 6.
James Merriman is appealing the Chichester District Council decision to turn down his application for land to the east of Nutbourne Park, in Main Road, Nutbourne.
He wanted to use the land for two gypsy pitches, additional hard standing and utility/dayrooms.
A design and access statement, submitted with the original application, said the ‘well designed gypsy pitches’ and planting would offer ‘significant improvement’ to the area.
However, members of the council’s development control committee (south) voted to refuse the plans.
They said it was outside the designated settlement policy area, within the Chichester Harbour Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Chichester to Emsworth strategic gap and the rural area.
A decision notice, published after the meeting on October 10, described the plan as ‘unduly prominent’ and ‘overbearing’ in its surroundings.
Before the meeting, the council received more than 100 objections to the scheme.
