VIDEO: First lambs prove spring is here
Spring has arrived in Slindon. A farm in the village celebrated the birth of its first lambs during the warm weather.
The birth of the twins at Gaston Farm on St Patrick's Day soon brought the traditional sight of them gambolling around the fields.
The rest of the flock, estimated to be carrying 500 lambs, is expected to give birth in the next fortnight.
This means a long period of sleepless nights, feeding, nurturing and the pitter-patter of tiny hooves for head shepherd Darren Sercombe and his father, Gerald. But their effort is worthwhile to end up with a healthy flock of spring lambs and a heartwarming rural sight.
Gaston Farm, on Church Hill Road, is being opened to the public from next Wednesday, April 1, to enable visitors to see and learn about the lambs and take a tractor and trailer ride to see them out on the South Downs.
The opening hours are 10am until 5pm seven days a week. More details from www.gastonfarm.com
