A SPECIAL visitor helped a church mark its 110th anniversary.

The new Bishop of Chichester, the Right Reverend Dr Martin Warner, made his first visit to St George’s Church, Whyke. He preached and presided over the church for the celebratory service, held to mark 110 years since the consecration of St George’s in September, 1902.

The bishop was greeted by the Rector of St George’s, Father Stuart Craddock.

The service was proceeded by a procession from the Whyke Lane amphitheatre.

Church members were dressed in the George and Dragon costume which won them first prize in the Chichester Diamond Jubilee Gala in June.

Regular services at the church are as follows: first Sunday of the month, mass 8am, community mass 10am, and solemn evensong and benediction at 5pm; all other Sundays, mass 8am, parish mass 10am and evening prayer at 5pm.

The enthronement of Bishop Martin will take place in Chichester Cathedral in the context of evensong on November 25.
