A 15-year-old boy from Bognor Regis has been arrested over a fire which broke out in a flat in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The teenager has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is currently being held in custody, police said.

A man trapped in the burning flat jumped out of a window onto the street below and was taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, with an ankle injury and smoke inhalation.

Another man also escaped from his neighbouring flat.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fire, which broke around 2am on Wednesday, November 11.

Detective Constable Dave Midgley said: “Anyone who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact police by emailing 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or ring 101 quoting serial 0080 of 11/11.”
