A BOSHAM girl has praised her ‘fantastic’ dance teacher for helping her to win some Irish dancing awards.

Emily Plant-Sheering won first prize for her Reel and third prize in the Light Jig dance at the 34th International Irish Dance Solent Feile, which was Emily’s first competition.

Her Mother Liz credits her success to her teacher. She said: “It is very unusual for a first competition entry to win first prize so we, her family, were all very surprised.

“Emily has a fantastic teacher – Sarah Manning.

“Her care and knowledge during Emily’s dance lessons really paid off.”

Sarah Manning herself is no stranger to stardom, having starred in Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, as well as having done choreography with Michael Flatley.

Her mother believes Sarah’s lessons have had an extremely positive effect on home educated Emily, she said: “The lessons have helped in a very holistic way. Irish Dancing is great for co-ordination, rhythm and fitness and is taken up by both girls and boys.”
