Bus company helps cancer charity

WITH the help of generous customers and staff, a local bus company running a park and ride over the Christmas period has raised £1,801.11 for charity.

Staff from Emsworth and District Motor Services raised the money during the Chichester park and ride scheme in December.

The money raised over the busy period will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Caren Austin-Lea, managing director at the company, said: “We have been operating the Christmas park and ride bus service on behalf of West Sussex County Council for about seven years and it’s the sixth year we have chosen Macmillan as a charity to raise funds for.

“Thank you to all the generous passengers who used the service and kindly donated.

“Cancer affects us all, we all know someone who has cancer and Macmillan is a fantastic charity operating in our local community. We are pleased we can help support them in this way”.

Steph Georgalakis, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “Since 2006 with the help of the staff at Emsworth and District Motor Services, the Christmas park and ride has raised more than £9,500 for the charity, which is a fantastic amount.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who donated, we can’t thank staff and shoppers enough.”
