A FAMILY-RUN asparagus farm is economising and has opened a cafe.
Angela Henslow, who runs the tearooms, said: “In current times, modern farms are facing ever-changing challenges and have to adapt and diversify to survive.
“With the aid of a regional grant aimed at increasing employment in rural areas, we have now opened a tearoom/cafe.
“This will help spread our income sources and also add value to the crops already produced on the farm.”
Farm shop customers are thrilled the long-awaited tearoom at Durleighmarsh farm has finally opened.
She continued: “Many loyal farm shop customers have been asking for a cafe on site for over 20 years!”
Durleighmarsh farm, near Rogate, has belonged to the Henslow family since 1955 and has adapted and changed over the years, from traditional mixed farming to specialising in asparagus production.
In addition to the farm shop, the farm now hosts several businesses including fabrics and furnishings, dress design, ceramics, flowers, a gym and a beauty studio.
The new Tea Barn allows visitors to enjoy everything on offer.
After working on the family farm for over 30 years, Angela is committed to fair trade for farmers both abroad and at home.
“We source our ingredients locally wherever possible, including milk, juices, and free-range sausages and bacon.
“Our speciality coffees and loose-leaf teas are all ethically traded.”
Son Edward runs the kitchen and produces an ever- changing menu of pastries and light lunches using seasonal Durleighmarsh produce, making him the third generation to be involved on the farm.
“We look forward to welcoming people as they come and relax on our beautiful farm and enjoy some real home cooking.”
