Mothercare is among the many chains to recently announce its departure from the city centre, and the East Street branch will be shutting its doors tomorrow (May 31).

It will join Thorntons, PamPurredPets and Argos, which has moved into Sainsbury’s at Westhampnett Road.

Now, jewellery chain Ernest Jones, which is currently located at a different unit at East Street, has submitted an application to move into the Mothercare site.

The documents read: “The proposal is to alter an existing Mothercare shopfront to an Ernest Jones Shopfront and to refurbish the ground floor and first floor interiors.

“This will improve access in and around the shop plus creating a pleasant environment for the staff and customers.

“The double doors will be held open to allow clear access in to the shop during trading hours.”

The full application can be seen at Chichester District Council’s website with the reference 17/01309/FUL
