SOUTHERN Water continues to pump sewage into the River Lavant, after a report last week in the Observer (February 14).
A Southern Water spokeswoman said: “We are still working to manage the exceptionally high groundwater levels in the Singleton area following the wettest year on record in England.
“Our emergency pumping and tankering operations continue to lower the levels of groundwater in our sewers, reducing the risk of people’s homes and gardens flooding.
“We have signs in place advising people to avoid going into the river and to wash their hands if they come into contact with water as a precaution. We continue to liaise with the Environment Agency.”
