MORE than 100 people have applied for temporary Christmas jobs at John Lewis at home in Chichester.
With just four weeks to go until Christmas, the store in Portfield Retail Park has created 16 new temporary jobs in the run-up to the busiest shopping period of the year.
The Christmas temps will support the shop during its extended opening hours throughout the festive period, which starts from December 1.
Among them is 23-year-old Robert Turner.
He had previously applied for a full-time job at the store and was contacted by John Lewis when the part-time positions became available.
He had been looking for work for around a month.
“I had come from a previous job, but then I left there to pursue a different path,” he said.
“As an employer, John Lewis has a good reputation.”
Robert said he believed the store opening had been good for Chichester.
“It brings back confidence for people buying in the local area, rather than going off and buying online,” he said.
“In terms of creation of jobs, there are other temps here with me and there is the potential for progression and maybe even a full-time role.”
The Christmas temps will fill a variety of selling assistant roles across a number of departments including Christmas shop, homeware and electrical technology.
Sarah Allen, personnel manager, outlined what the firm was looking for: “When we are recruiting temporary staff for Christmas, we look for people who appreciate the importance of great customer service and are willing to go that extra mile for customers visiting our shops.
“Making sure customers enjoy their experience and are satisfied with the service they have received is the number one priority.”
