A car crash and a small chimney fire at a pub kept fire crews in the Chichester area busy on Monday, March 18.

A fire engine from Chichester raced to help rescue a woman from her car after it span out of control on the Northgate roundabout and ended up in a hedge.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue crew members helped move the car to a safe position after the accident, which happened just before 10am.

Their colleagues in East Wittering also sprang into action the same day, when they were called to a chimney fire at a pub in West Wittering.

The Old House at Home, in Cakeham Road, had a small fire just after 2.30pm which firefighters quickly extinguished.

Staff at the pub said it wasn’t a serious blaze, and they were open for business as usual that evening.
