‘Busy’ road ATM plans at Donnington sparks debate

A CASH machine sparked debate at a Chichester District Council planning meeting on Wednesday (September 18).

The Co-op applied for permission for an external ATM machine at their new store on the old Selsey Tram site in Donnington.

The machine would be on the Stockbridge Road, and Donnington Parish Council said ‘this would create a hazard on what is already a busy road’.

Several members of the planning committee agreed with these concerns.

“I believe this would cause a significant traffic issue,” said Cllr Simon Oakley.

But others thought it would not be a problem.

“I do not honestly think anyone would be stupid enough to park on this road, but who knows,” said Cllr John Ridd.

“I think we should give the public more credit,” said Cllr Janet Duncton.

West Sussex County Council’s highways department said it would install yellow lines on the road, and the plans were approved by the committee.
