A TAXI driver spoke to police after seeing children climb Chichester’s war memorial.
Jim Rendall, 36, saw the children climbing up the memorial in Litten Gardens, on May 14 about 4.30pm.
“What I could clearly see was that one of them was nearly at the top,” he said.
“Not only is it very disrespectful considering the year, as well, it’s dangerous.”
A police officer attended the scene later, but the climbers had gone.
Mr Rendall said the children were with a young mother who was letting her children climb the memorial.
Having two children himself, he said he taught them the importance of the history.
“I think it’s really important that they know,” he said. “You have to know your history to know where you’re going.”
