A car has ‘smashed’ into a house in Felpham causing internal and external damage to the property.

The collision happened on Tuesday at around 11.45am, leaving the house on Blackthorn Avenue with the front door unusable.

The 64-year-old driver from Bognor Regis was unhurt, police said.

Home-owner Peter Grimshaw said he was told the car swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and hit the front of his property.

He said: “I got a call on on Tuesday morning around 11am saying that a car had smashed into the front of my house.

“It was a huge shock. I work in Worthing and I shot home. I didn’t know what to expect.”

Mr Grimshaw, who has lived in his home four years, said the impact had cracked the external brickwork up to the top of the house.

“It looks like it’s going to be a substantial amount of money,” he said.

“It’s a relatively new house.”

He added that he had contacted an engineer to assess the extent of the damage.

A police spokesperson said: “At 11.45am on Tuesday, March 8, a black Ford Focus being driven south-west along Blackthorn Avenue, Felpham, towards its junction with Teasel Grove left the road and collided with the front of a house.

“The driver, a 64-year-old woman from Bognor Regis, was unhurt but her car and the property were both badly damaged - the house having its front door rendered unusable and sustaining both internal and external damage.”
