Chichester canal basin artwork set for unveiling

SCULPTURE in the form of elegant butterflies is set to be unveiled at Chichester Canal Basin.

The artwork, which will be revealed tomorrow (November, 15) was commissioned by Chichester District Council with schools helping artist Steve Tomlinson to design the work.

The four butterfly sculptures, have wings depicting features from the city and there will also be a curved bench commemorating John Rennie.

District councillor Pam Dignum, who is part of the canal basin liaison group, said: “The aim is to enhance the area and it is something special that will remain as a key landmark in the city for many years to come.”

“It is fantastic that local residents were able to influence this artwork. It is a very clever design which celebrates both the history of the canal and wildlife, as well as the city.

“We are looking forward to unveiling the finished piece in November.”
