ALMOST 30 groups are hoping to win a share of £19,363 at a meeting next week.
Members of West Sussex County Council’s south Chichester county local committee are set to vote on this year’s applications for prevention and wellbeing grants at their meeting on Tuesday, June 11.
The 27 groups can bid for up to £5,000 of the £19,363 pot and the committee has received bids for £34,153.13 meaning not all will be successful.
Only one group in the south Chichester area has bid for the maximum £5,000 from one committee and that is the Selsey & District Carers Support Group.
However, several other groups have spread their applications across more than one committee, requesting a share of the £5,000 from each.
The groups bidding are: 4Sight, ACCT, Alzheimers Society West Sussex, Arts Dream Selsey, Chichester Bognor MS Society, Chichester Community Development Trust, Chichester Information Shop for Young People, Chichester Mindfulness and Wellbeing Group, Chichester Witterings PHAB Club, Cruse West Sussex, EXTEND, Friday Tea and Chat, Headway-Bognor, In Safe & Caring Hands Limited, Ladies Thursday Group, Lifecentre, Parklands Thursday Club, PBC Foundation, SASBAH, Selsey and District Carers Support Group, Selsey U3A, SERV, Sports Dream, Sussex Otters, Time Aside, West Sussex Asperger’s Awareness Group and Youth Dream.
County-wide, £190,000 is available and applications for £268,793.03 have been made.
Individual committees are allocated funds based on population – south Chichester has 10.2 per cent of the population.
The north Chichester committee covers an area with 4.2 per cent of the population meaning it has £7,933 to allocate. It received bids for £17,540.
Members will also receive an update on the total grants given last year. Applicants are supposed to demonstrate ‘innovative, community-based activities’ and ‘enable social opportunities’.
The meeting will be held at 7pm on Tuesday in committee room three of County Hall, West Street, Chichester.
