LIBRARY volunteers were thanked for their help in encouraging young children to read during the school holidays.

As part of the national Summer Reading Challenge, the Chichester library recruited volunteers via Outset Youth Action to encourage youngsters to read.

Children’s librarian Kerry Brookes said: “Families tell us they really value the chance for their children to talk about the books they have been reading and having volunteers in every library means we can dedicate more time to this than would normally be possible.”

Mayor of Chichester John Hughes presented certificates to volunteers.
