Chichester MP Andrew Tyrie has pledged to support Chichester Harbour Conservancy’s ongoing battle to stop the water quality in the harbour from diminishing.

The politician met Tim Knight and Peter Taylor of the conservancy at Dell Quay in Apuldram to learn about its work.

Excessive storm discharges from the nearby Water Treatment Works have an adverse effect on the quality of harbour water.

Mr Tyrie agreed to support the work of the conservancy and to consider how the best possible outcomes might be achieved.

Siún Cranny, director of Chichester Harbour Conservancy, said: “Mr Tyrie was very sympathetic towards these issues and by working with him, Chichester District Council and the other agencies involved, we hope to find feasible and long-term solutions.

“Mr Tyrie immediately engaged with the issue and we had a lively debate about how solutions might be found.”
