Chichester pensioner burgled by bogus caller

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a burglary in Chichester.

A pensioner, in Durnford Close, Chichester, was targeted at 11am on Saturday (March 21) by a woman who claimed she was asking for sponsorship.

Sussex Police said: “A woman purporting to be asking for sponsorship stole £200 cash from a pensioner who is in her early seventies.

“The woman gained access by asking to use the toilet. It was only after she had left the address that the theft was discovered.”

Detective Constable Jon Berisford said: “Residents are advised to be on their guard to people asking to gain access to their homes in similar circumstances.

“The suspect is described as white, aged 20-30, 5’3” and of medium build, with straight black collar length hair and wearing a black skirt and jumper.”

Any witnesses or anyone with information was asked to contact police via or by calling 101, quoting serial 555 of March 21.
