Police have shut down a ‘cannabis factory’ in West Ashling following a tip-off from members of the public.

Officers last week raided the property in Portal Close, West Ashling, where they seized more than a dozen cannabis plants.

Chichester Police wrote on their Facebook page: “As a result of valuable community intelligence, a cannabis factory has been found and dismantled in West Ashling today and the property has been returned to the registered social landlord.

“Hyde Martlet will now seek re-possession of the property through the legal system where they will re let it back to a more deserving family.”

A spokesman for Sussex Police added: “Police executed a Section 23 Misuse of Drugs Act warrant at a property in Portal Close, West Ashling at around 10.25am on Wednesday (October 28).

“The rented property was vacant with no furniture however there was evidence of drug cultivation.

“Fifteen cannabis plants were seized.

“Police enquiries are continuing.”
