A RUNNER is taking on a race known as the Brutal10 two days after Christmas, to support a project tackling poverty in the Philippines.
Ella Guscott, 21, from Chichester, is heading to Alaminos in the Philippines for 11 weeks in January.
Once there, she will work alongside both UK and Filipino volunteers on a project based around disaster and risk-reduction management.
“The project I’m working on is run by the development charity Voluntary Service Overseas and aims to enhance the capacity of the community to anticipate, prepare for, and cope with the impacts of disaster,” Ella said, adding she was ‘really excited’ to get out there and help people.
The race in which she will be competing is a 10km route over hills and tricky terrain.
Ella said she was raising sponsorship to help support the charity work she was going to do.
“My run is a way of making sure developing countries can continue to benefit from the work of future volunteers, so it’s vital I reach my target,” she said.
“I’ve been training hard, and am hoping Observer readers would like to make a small donation to help my cause.”
